REPORT ON DOWN’S DAY ( 21 MARCH)
● Downs Syndrome is a genetic condition that happens when a child is born with an extra chromosome. (Trisomy of Chromosome 21 ) .
● The extra chromosome affects the child leading to developmental delay , intellectual disability , increased risk for certain medical issues .
● To mark the importance of this day , Department Of Paediatrics , MGM Medical College, Nerul , Navi Mumbai celebrated this day on Friday 21 st March 2025 at MCH Hospital Belapur (NMMC Hospital) in the Paediatrics Ward from 10 am to 11 am.
● Dr. Vedashree Deshpande (Assistant Professor ,Paediatrics ,MGM Medical College Nerul ) gave a speech to all the parents of the children admitted in the ward .
● The speech enlightened the audience of the importance of this day , the definition, clinical features and prevention of Down’s syndrome day removing the stigma of the audience . Importance of Antenatal screening was emphasised. Taboo and myths once cleared are lifelong lessons to learn .
● The event was attended by Dr. Vedashree Deshpande(Asst Prof) , Dr. Kamran Dalwai(SR) , Dr. Betsy Raju(Tutor), Dr.Sourav Das(Tutor), Dr. Arika Pareek(Tutor) and the ward sisters .
